On the 13th of June as part of the journalism workshops at Radio 1’s academy, one of our very own SMJ’s, Joe Mason (a.k.a JournoJoe) sat on an experts journalism panel for the journalism Q&A session, along with Benji Lanyado, Charlene White, and Michael Buchanan hosted by Caroline Thomson.
It was a great workshop that gave practical journalism tips, like “how to” get into the business sort of advice at the start, and then went into more personal open questions in the second half.
The best part of the whole experience for me personally was getting to hear some of the more personal responses to difficult question about things, like moral issues from the more experienced journalists like Michael Buchanan. But I did feel a bit sorry for Joe, because even though the SMJ’s are journalists, Joe didn’t have a wealth of personal experience to share, and have the ability to discuss the more serious journalism moral dilemmas.
Joe was very professional, and there was not a hint nervousness from him the entire time, even though he had a very stubborn swivel chair that never budged. Well done Joe!
