“The festival includes 10 million free opportunities..all over the UK..for everybody even if you are unemployed.”—Ruth Mckenzie, the director of the 2012 cultural Olympiad, on the London 2012 festival.
I remember it was a very rushed interview, and I think it was just before we were going to leave the hotel in Vancouver. So I think we were all very under prepared, but in the last two years I’ve gained a lot more experience, so I’ve already got some question prepared for the interview.
The evening is a youth discussion on the cultural identity of an individual, and what team you support for the 2012 London Olympics. The debate will be hosted by the Radio 1 extra DJ Jemma Cairney. It will include poetry created by Kim, Voxpops collected by Joe and Kaspian, as well as a short interview of me.
I’m really excited and looking forward to some really interesting debates. So come back to the blog soon to hear all about it!
It was a great workshop that gave practical journalism tips, like “how to” get into the business sort of advice at the start, and then went into more personal open questions in the second half.
The best part of the whole experience for me personally was getting to hear some of the more personal responses to difficult question about things, like moral issues from the more experienced journalists like Michael Buchanan. But I did feel a bit sorry for Joe, because even though the SMJ’s are journalists, Joe didn’t have a wealth of personal experience to share, and have the ability to discuss the more serious journalism moral dilemmas.
Joe was very professional, and there was not a hint nervousness from him the entire time, even though he had a very stubborn swivel chair that never budged. Well done Joe!
Just on my way to the Radio 1 academy in Hackney, to see fellow SMJ, Joe Mason. He will be on a panel with Benji hosted by the big CEO of Radio 1 to talk about the SMJ’s and his recent photograpy work he did for the freeword centre.
I will be tweeting live from the talk, and promise to do a little blog about it after. I’m so excited, so good luck Joe.
